FAQs for the intensive German course

Intensive German courses in Berlin

What is an intensive German course?

First and foremost, not all intensive German courses are the same. While some of these courses aim at boosting existing skills in a short period, others build and develop skills gradually. If one must offer a common definition, then intensive German course means taking part in classes everyday. In other words, if you need to learn the language quickly, intensive classes are the solution.

German intensive courses generally comprise 80 lessons per sub-level, which take 4 weeks to complete. Quite understandably, the group size impacts the learning rate and groups smaller than 6 require less time. Some programs focus on grammar, conversation, or vocabulary specifically, but it is a combination of them all at DAS Akademie. We actively train your reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension.

Who is this program for - is there an age limit?

  • Anyone who wishes to learn German fast and easy
  • Anyone who wishes to speak the German Language
  • As a preparatory language course for work or study
  • For complete beginners or anyone with previous experience

The miminum age for attending adult classes is 16, while we do not have a maximum age limit. The average age in a group is 25. Quite naturally, we also offer classes exclusive to teenagers and adults.

What will I learn during my studies?

The intensive German course covers the following topics: Vocabulary, grammar (tenses, declination of articles, syntax etc.), idiomatic expressions, dialects, pronunciation and writing. Not only mastering the infamous Akkusativ, Dativ and Genitiv will be piece of cake through games, flashcards and quizzes. Most importantly, you will learn speaking real German – correctly, fluently and effortlessly.

Interactive classes will make you move around the room, delve into interesting themes and enact scenes from daily life. Kabarett, Kleinkunst or Treppenwitz – the possibilities are infinite. While doing so, you will master German history, politics and culture.  All in all, this intensive course is the right choice if you aim at communicating with finesse.

What is the intensive German class schedule?

Our intensive German class is held everday, Monday through Friday. Depending whether you are in a mini (4 to 5 participants) or maxi (6 to 10 participants) group, your timetable will be as follows:

  • mini  10:00-12:30 daily
  • maxi  10:00-13:15 daily

This is because smallest groups can cover the same curriculum in a shorter amount of time.

Regardless of the group type your intensive course will always fulfil the CEFR criteria and will be recognised by German embassies worldwide in the language study or study preparation visa application.

How long is one lesson unit?

Also known as a “lesson hour,” one intensive course lesson unit lasts 45 minutes.

How long does it take to learn German in an intensive course?

It will take you 4 weeks to complete one sub-level in an intensive German course. In order to speak German at an advanced level (C1), you will need 40 weeks which is about 10 months.

More than just a language school, we are a hub of excellence in German language education. After all, we take pride in making students speak by using the right structures from the very first lesson. We have been teaching German as a foreign language for over 20 years. Our team provides an open and inspiring learning environment where the students actively participate in the classes and enjoy the learning process. In short, we offer the best intensive German courses in Berlin at the best prices.

Can I book a "1 year intensive German course" in Germany?

The so called “1-year intensive German course in Germany” or “visa courses” run from 12 weeks up to 40 weeks. Here, international students receive 20 lesson hours of language instruction per week. In this way, students can complete one sub-level in 4 weeks and move onto the next sub-level straight away.

If a super intensive course is needed, students can opt either for intensive plus, which includes more lessons through the addition of evening classes, or intensive special, which includes private instruction. In addition, our school offers custom length programs to make up for the best intensive German course. For example, some of the intensive German classes in Berlin are organised by age, such as the German Summer School.

What skills will I gain after 1 month in a beginner's class?

At the end of 4 weeks of a beginners’ intensive German course, you will be able to:

  • use basic everyday phrases aimed at meeting specific needs such as ordering dinner and buying groceries
  • introduce yourself
  • ask and answer questions about personal details such as where you live, people you know, things you do and what you have
  • interact with others in a simple way and understand simple sentences
